In March of 2009 a silence fell over a packed SXSW event while the clacking of audio cables and random mic checks cut through the conversation and whoots of an anxious crowd. A couple seconds later the crowd would be experiencing a dancefloor experience with electronic beats, folk inspired guitar, and disco flair. Anyone who has heard Ishi live is in love with their catchy melodies and playful vibe. Ishi is the brain child of Brad Dale who produces edgy techno music for labels like Harmonious Discord and Red Music; and JT Mudd who has been involved in a majority of Dallas based music. In early 2009 Taylor Rea joined the group to provide a sultry female presence to the already sex-filled dance experience. To celebrate the release of Ishi’s full length album out this May “Into the Tree’s” Harmonious Discord is proud to present a set of remixes by local heavy hitters guaranteed to make you shake your dandelion.

Harmonious Discord 020 Ishi- Shake Your Remixes

1. Ishi- Shake Your Dandelion (Summer Dub)
2. Ishi- Shake Your Dandelion (Red Sean Remix)
3. Ishi- Shake Your Dandelion (Red Eye and Blixaboy Step Up Your Game Mix)
4. Ishi- Pastel Lights (PointBender’s Flikr Affair Mix)

Our first selection is a warm summer time rendition of the original courtesy of Ishi themselves. This version takes the synth heavy dance tune and takes it down a notch with floating rhodes samples and simple electro beats. This take pays homage to early deep house innovators with lots of natural shades that overall show the diversity of this super group. Next up is HD newcomer Red Sean with a woofer shattering galaxy disco edit. Sean takes the original elements and sets them in play with a huge electro disco bass. This one is bound for the airwaves and picks up halfway through with moving congas and sexy key changes. Red Sean provides a cut with instant classic written all over it! Next up is one of Dallas’s most dynamic duos Red Eye and Blixaboy. In their own regard each has accomplished immense in the digital realm with releases on notable techno, house, and dubstep imprints across the globe. This mix solidifies they are no one trick pony’s with a techy dubby cut guaranteed to get you lost in a swirl of pads and sub-bass. Halfway through comes the break into a dub inspired rhythm and lots of reverberated vocal snipps. Lastly comes a remix of another track being featured on Ishi’s May release called Pastel Lights by Harmonious Discord founder and label artist PointBender. This workout contains lots of 909 drums and vocal stutters that chop the vocals and melody into a syncopated playground. However, everything changes after the first drop when PB showcases the penetrating disco vibe that Ishi is known for. From here on out its all chopped everything and lots of funky bass variations. We hope you enjoy these remixes and be on the lookout for the full length album by Ishi out this May.

Ishi
Timing is everything… So is the case of John T. Mudd & Brad Dale combining efforts through the arms of a beloved friend. This was first light of the journey known as Ishi. Material was brought by both forces to construct their first endeavors of a full length. Pulling sounds from organic to electric, the two merge their influences from folk to electro; folktronic. The process has been evolving for the past year and a half. Connecting the dots for the band’s commanding live presence, to the table comes singer Taylor Rea and drummer J.J. Mudd. On the brink of wrapping up final production for their 2010 release “Through the Trees”, Ishi now continues to expand their live schedule, sharing their music with all whom will listen.

Red Eye and Blixaboy
After only a short time working together Blixaboy (Wanz Dover) and Red Eye(Scott Canfield) have quickly proven themselves to be a dynamic duo in the electronic music world with their first two releases (remixes of Datarocks “Amarillion”, and Depthides “Lost In A Daydream”). Coming from two different worlds, they have combined their knowledge and skill in their respective fields to form a sound all their own. Wanz (founder of the new “Astroblaque” label, current SXSW Laptop Deathmatch champion) brings his extensive experience in live bands (Mazinga Phazer, Black Dots), and history of dub music. Scott adds his extensive experience in dj’ing (20 years) and knowledge of techno/house music (remixes and productions on labels such as Yoshitoshi, Robsoul, .dotbleep, Positiva) Together the worlds mesh into a bassy, detroit influenced, indie sound full of tricky beat structures, heady melodic dubstep vibes, and spacey synthy soundscapes. Sometimes for the floor, sometimes for the head, and sometimes for both, their quality production and unique approach will definitely catch your ear.

PointBender

PointBender is the solo project of Grey member and Harmonious Discord label founder Sean Anderson. His musical footprint spans over a decade of releases and collaborations with innovative artists in many genres. In 2001, Grey (Eric Reeves and Sean Anderson) released their first EP on Guidance Recordings. They followed up with projects on notable imprints such as Fair Park, Blunted Funk, MVM, and multiple releases on their own label Harmonious Discord. The PointBender project focuses on minimal music with lots of intelligent syncopation and signature hip moving bass-lines. Often synth driven and strange, his music is sharp with a twist of nonsense. Sean started performing his live show in 2007 and has since played various venues across the globe. His debut album “Sifting Through Circuits” was released in August 2009 and showcased many selections from the live performances. In 2010, he followed up with remixes of Limacon, Perfect Strangers, and Ishi as well as another EP for musical charity project Musical Missionary. Be on the look out for a series of releases on his home label as well as inspired collaborations in the near future.

Musical Missionary follows up its acclaimed debut release from Darren DuVall with a strong house music EP that’s firmly focused on the dance floor. Cooking up the heat on the label’s second release is Pointbender, the live act alias of Texas native Sean Anderson. Sean has a number of releases under his belt on his own Harmonious Discord label and as one half of the production duo Grey. Pointbender brings out Sean’s more live-oriented performance skills that have been honed in countless energetic nightclub gigs.

Pointbender’s Left Brain EP features three tracks that range from set warmer to floor destroyer. The warm, deep house cut “Exodus Ted” merges soothing synths and piano with steady tight percussion and a bubbling melody. “Frosted Circuit” lights up the dance floor with snappy tech-house beats and a rolling wave of synth stabs. The acid bass just makes it that much sweeter. “Left Brain” is cowbell techno at its finest, with some more acid bass for good measure. There’s a time and a place for “Left Brain”, peak hour and right next to the speakers.

Musical Missionary is more than a record label … it’s also nonprofit charity dedicated to improving educational opportunities for underprivileged youth around the world. Profits from label sales go to sponsor music lessons for deserving students who would otherwise be unable to afford them. Upcoming projects and releases include contributions from Chris Fortier, Alland Byallo, Stryke, MikeZ, Miguel Colmenares and Q-Burns Abstract Message.

Dubfire (Deep Dish) – “Left Brain 5/5”

Joshua Iz (Vizual, Bionic/USA) – “Definitely can work “Frosted Circut” into my sets. Thanks!”

Miles Maeda (Smartbar/USA) – “5/5. Exodus Ted is an extremely catchy ditty Definitely will sneak this one in as often as possible.”

Alland Byallo (Nighlight, Liebe*Detail/USA) – “4/5. Left Brain is cool!”

Maetrik/Maceo Plex (Mothership, Crosstown Rebels/Spain) – “4/5. Great EP as usual from Pointbender. ‘Frosted Circuit’ is my fav!”

Harmonious Discord is proud to present the debut album from Grey music member and label front-man Sean Anderson aka PointBender. In early 2007 Sean started performing a loopy, fun, improve based live performance act that was focused on very basic techno music with an underlying twist of sharpness and tech accents. A lot of the early song creations came from experiments that Sean had during his live shows. In 2008, Sean decided to make PointBender his main music project and from that came a string of Ep’s, remixes, and live shows. Much like the label, the project kept true to estranged noises and complex soundscapes that culminate into an overall dance-floor experience like no other. This album covers all shades of PointBender, from deep offerings that explode in headphones to dance floor rompers that tingle with insanity.

No Kiss starts us off with a super moody interlude that draws you in. Do not operate machinery while this ones on, a nice sci-fi beginning to the LP. Sly Operator swoops in to shake you back to life with some punchy Plastic City-ish tech house and moogy lead synth line which pierces the midnight air. Vibe Monster is another hip shaker with cascading vibe trills and bouncy bass that steps up and down to pierce your center of gravity. Vibe Monster breaks into swirls of drunken Rhodes conversations that get vacuumed into the return of the smooth beat and bass line. TV Pill features the return on Grey vocalist and purveyor off all things creepy Professor Diabolicas. A homage to the hours wasted away staring at flashy images displayed by everyone’s favorite vacuum tube. Tv Pill is a techno floor banger with lots of disruptive static and thick rigid bass tones. This tune reminds us all the bliss gained by turning our brain off and embracing the moving picture images. Hero Belt takes us from Detroit to Berlin by way of a 303 reminiscent undertow groove and driving closed hi-hat and dubby repetitive keys. The Red Eye is pure Berlin-ish bliss with hypnotic repetitive tones in different octaves and a punchy bass. It has a tenseness to it and is definitely a building, moody bitch. It’s a walk down a dark hallway with things jumping out at you. One for you Coccoon Rec fans.

PointBender (Harmonious Discord/Guidance/Chalant)

http://www.pointbender.com

Pointbender is the solo project of Grey (Guidance/Fair Park/MVM) music member and Harmonious Discord label owner Sean Anderson.

In 2000, Sean began producing tracks with Eric Reeves under the “Grey” moniker. In 2002, Grey released their first project on the highly acclaimed label “Guidance”– a release that was featured on Miami CSI, MTV’s Road Rules and the Real World. Less than a year later, Grey would open up for John Tejeda at the Homebar and release 5 singles on various imprints.

Grey continued to release tracks between 2003 and 2006 on Blunted Funk, Deepness, Boogie Basics, and their own label, Harmonious Discord. A move to Austin prompted Sean to start producing under Pointbender as an outlet for simple/fun techno music focused on analog devices and strange dissonance.

Sean Anderson’s various music projects have been performed around the world to cities including Toronto, Helsinki, Marseilles, London, Berlin, LA, San Francisco, New York, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Miami, Detroit, Chicago, and all over Texas. Although considered “tech house” by most, Pointbender’s Live PA performances incorporate a wide range of electronica genres and styles–from techno to house to minimal– that blend seamlessly to create what he calls “epic nonsense.”

M.A.N.D.Y. – Get Physical (Berlin, Germany)
Renaissance have been immortalized in dance music history through the seminal ‘Renaissance – The Mix Collection’ compilation album, released in 1994. Mixed by Sasha & John Digweed and recently voted ‘The Best Mix Compilation Ever’ by ‘Mixmag’ magazine, the lavishly packaged triple CD was the first gold-selling club compilation album – it transformed the dance compilation business overnight. Since then Renaissance has sold far in excess of a million albums in territories all over the world.

Renaissance is delighted to announce M.A.N.D.Y. heading-up the next chapter in their ‘Mix Collection’ series.

“We’ve always approached our compilations eclectically,” say Patrick and Philipp; “The broad brief from Renaissance for ‘The Mix Collection’ allowed us to continue this, so expect some exclusive original productions, tracks from the past, present and future, plus the odd twist along the way.”

Whether its DJing, heading-up the respected Get Physical label, producing or compiling mix albums, there’s no doubt Patrick and Philipp, aka M.A.N.D.Y., are amongst the most exciting pioneers of electronic music on the planet. Their releases and club appearances are met with eager anticipation, founded on a reputation for delivering quality, eclecticism and the damn right weird and wonderful! Now, as the pair join forces with Renaissance for the first time, that trend is set to continue and ascend.

M.A.N.D.Y.’s eagerly anticipated ‘Mix Collection’ does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a beautiful hybrid that flawlessly blends and balances tempos, genres, moods and emotion. A feat that’s made all the more remarkable when you consider Patrick and Phillip have managed to include a whopping 44 tracks, which they further elaborate on, “Eclecticism has always been the key to our approach in selecting tracks for our compilations and the broad brief of ‘The Mix Collection’ enabled us to carry on this way. It’s never an easy process and, as with all our mix comps, this was chosen, edited and produced with blood, sweat, tears as well as a lot of fun and love!”

Upside Down (Disc One) kicks things off and, although it may be the more relaxed mix of the pair, remains true to its audio rollercoaster promise. Be it the ambient intro of Shed and dOP; their own ‘Full Off’ (a production recorded exclusively for the comp); the impeccably sequenced mid-section that fuses Lopazz, Sebastien Tellier and Bronnt Industries, or the finale of Schneider TM & Kpt-michi-gan’s Smiths cover ‘The Light 3000′, this is a body of music that delivers throughout its 70 minutes.

Not to be outdone, ‘Downside Up’ (Disc 2) puts on its dancing shoes, snatches the baton and picks-up the pace, transporting the listener further into M.A.N.D.Y.’s unique musical world. It’s a constantly shifting, yet perfectly poised landscape crafted out of the 27 records that comprise the disc. Key names such as Peter Kruder, Chromeo, DJ Koze, Martin Buttrich, Felix Da Housecat and Ben Watt rub shoulders before giving way to the inspired inclusion of seminal Miami Bass classic, the aptly titled ‘Bass Generator’. Keen to underline the entire album’s cohesive diversity, things come to fitting close with The Black Dog giving way to the cheeky use of the piano riff from Radio Slave’s take on Hell and P Diddy’s ‘The DJ’ and bonus track ‘What It’s For’ by friends and Get Physical regulars, The Junior Boys.

With the iconic art coming from famed designers ‘Engine’, this new ‘Mix Collection’ is one of the most eagerly anticipated compilations of the year.

PointBender LIVE – Harmonious Discord, Guidance (Austin, TX)[/B]
PointBender is the solo project of Grey music member and Harmonious Discord label frontman Sean Anderson. The PointBender project focuses on minimal music with lots of swing and character. Often Synth driven and strange his music is sharp with a twist of nonsense. Sean started performing the solo live PA in September 2007 at the Southern Junktion Music Festival and has since played various venues across the globe. His debut album will be coming October 2009. Be on the look out for a series of releases on his home label as well as inspired collaborations in the near future.
